Miami

These are from May 2008. I had a 9 hour layover in Miami so I got on a bus and walked around the city and beach. These are some of the few pictures I was able to snap while I still had my camera. I know these are kind of old (and a lot are of palm trees) but I just wanted to give you guys a little taste of paradise as we say goodbye to summer...

You've seen a gazillion movies you want to tell people about, but Penelope is still my favorite.

You learned that if you say "What a handsome face" to a Swedish person it sounds just like Swedish for "Was it he that farted?" and they'll most likely laugh. (and that you got bored over the summer and learned other random Swedish phrases -for example I can tell you that to get to the American Embassy you have to go straight ahead and you'll see it on your left- something I'll never need to know)

You read a lot of good books: Two of which were The Hunger Games and Catching Fire (and the Hunger games upset me so be careful if you read it)

And if you're me, on a daily basis you say something absurd and funny to someone. Such as meeting someone named Miles and telling him "Aw cute!" because you think of your cousin's kid instead of consulting years of well practiced social skills.

And this morning I made a new record of getting ready for work/school (including a shower and partially blow drying my hair) all in 16 min... making wake up time, to work clock-in time in a total of 23 min. Yes.

I'm starting a new summer term and still working on campus. That's pretty much my life. My other sister Lindsey also had a baby! I'll have to put some pictures up of her little Norah Jean. I love being an aunt and can't wait to meet them. And my parents are coming to visit me next weekend :D

I did finally get the infamous American Heritage GE over with!!! Phew.

kumquats and much more

Sorry I haven't blogged in forever. I'm going to get back into it though!
Here is a quick-read update: My oldest sister Emily had her first baby in March, her name is Evelyn Vie Watts (we call her Evie or E.V.)

Grandma and baby

1) I bought Kumquats, flowers, and salmon (among other things) tonight :)

2) I'm now living on the top floor of an old house :)

3) I LOVE my roommates (they're from Chicago, Sweeden, and OK)

4) I'm only taking ONE class and it's the best schedule ever!! :)

5) I'm working at the Dean of Students office - LOVE IT!

6) I bought myself new clothes because of the job

7) I LOVE summer and the sun

8) I think I like raquet ball... a lot...

9) I'm having a love affair with Netflix

I want to travel somewhere. What country would you recommend? I think after I graduate I'm going to live in Portugal for a year. (which of course depends on whether I have time to take a Portuguese class or two, and if I can get a job working in Europe when my degree will be for Latin America)

I donno... basically I want to explore another place but I don't have any money so it will be awhile before I get to travel again. :(

waive to your mailman/woman or gender neutral name: posty

Ah! It has been how long? I haven't blogged since last year! How scandalous! I decided since today is the last day of January I might as well put something down so that I can have a post per month. I'm sorry to say I don't have any funny comments to tell you about life, so I think I will give you an update.

Also I decided I'm going to start blogging in the way textbooks should be written- I'll bold the important facts to facilitate easy and fast reading...

I have been back at school 4 weeks. This semester is, and will continue to be, much better than last semester. I finally got around to changing my major officially to Latin American Studies with a minor in International Development. (all though I am taking one geography class just for curiosity's sake). My favorite classes are Humanities of Latin America (I get to read some great Literature like Octavio Paz), and Introduction to Film (I watch movies and get to talk about them). Intro to film is probably the second best class at byu, second only to Bowling.

And now for an entertaining story:

When walking to school with my roommate this random guy joined in our conversation. (I was making fun of people who drive around parking lots to get the closest space instead of just taking the 4th row and walking- which is faster). He was funny, and the conversation lead to a story which I will paraphrase from his point of view: One time I saw a guy who just barely missed the mailman. I waved to the mailman to get his attention. The mailman had the most depressed expression on his face as if "today, like every other day, is the worst day of my life." But when he saw me waiving he turned to me and his face just lit up. He was so happy to have someone waiving at him. Then I felt really bad because he noticed that I was also pointing to the man who was chasing after him, and his face fell back into the the "depressed, worst day of my life" expression.

So what I learned from this conversation is that you should waive to your mailman, mailwoman, or just to use a gender neutral word, your posty. That way when people need to get the posty's attention he/she won't have all his/her happiness shattered. (And apparently it is the little gestures in life that make the big difference).
